Bobby Fischer was one of the best chess players in history, without a doubt. He won World Championships, Olympics and many tournaments, being considered one of the best of all time. He is believed to have flouted international sanctions by traveling to Yugoslavia in 1992 to play with his Russian rival Boris Spassky, but after that he went into hiding because he was afraid of being prosecuted, and remained missing for years, eventually giving up chess. He also stated that after the creation of machines and engines, chess lost favor and would stop playing.
