Patron, payment and other stuff.

I know perfectly that Lichess needs to be sustained with money, but, was it necessary to create differences among players? emblems, trophies...
Is it necessary for politicians and business organizations to print everything good that they do with your money?
It is a way of saying Thank You. Kind of heartwarming to know there is a site out there that gives a little back. As for differences among players... Brah either pony up some bucksheesh or start a thread with ideas for other ways to get special emblems / trophies etc.

I will say on a side-note that I am saddened by the loss of the LM Title. I really wanted to work towards that.
I agree the less flashy method seemed better. Naming someone a patron seemed a little much. I liked the star much better tbh. They might bring the LM back once they get more staff. If it ever happens not saying it will. But some mod will be quick to correct and reprehend me for saying that. (Not trying to be insulting myself).
I prefered the star too, but this is also a cool design. Though, I'd prefer if it's not shown everywhere (in the forums, etc).

Anywho, about the LM: github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/996

Maybe when that is (hopefully) implemented, will the LMs come back. It's rather long checking individual games manually, etc.
Obligatory reminder that the above post is only a statement and bears no promise.
I think this website has taken the wrong approach towards raising money. Excuse my language, but Lichess is bit like a prostitute. She says just donate to me, but we all know, she is charging for sex.

Lichess has gone to some great depths to demonize the idea of a subscription service, yet if you come to think of it, a "patron" is really just a subscriber, paying for the whole of Lichess as a product, and in return getting a shiny icon. It's not too different from other chess sites, or software companies in general, which try to sell a subscription service.

Lichess *could* adopted a more efficient model for gathering operation funds. There was a question some months ago about allowing users to teach each other at a rate. All the developers overlooked the idea, but it has tremendous potential in creating a healthy influx of money. The idea was that someone could choose to use the site's study feature to offer tutoring service that other users could buy at some cheap rate. Lichess could make a commission in that process.

What's better, a fancy icon, or a chess lesson? I think users would be happier paying for a service offered by other users than just paying for the sake of paying just to make Lichess survive.
It's a subscription service to a little icon next to your name, not to any of the features. It is nothing like chess.com etc. This is just so thibault and co can get some more money so they can do more work on the site.
#7 There is major difference between subscribing for extra content, and donating because you love the site and want it to keep running.
I am fine with the patron status and everything but I would like to have my star back in the profile. I enjoyed it immensely everytime I gazed at it.
