1) There are a lot of coaches
2) All coaches are different and therefore work different (age, gender, experience, rating, playing skills, teaching skills, etc.)
3) Each coach has (or should have) his own chess methods of teaching
Depending what is the way of the coaches they teach students, there are various approaches. For example I do not teach the opening lines, but I identify my students strong and weak points. Based on the students games and their comments I identify their problems and find the solutions.
As simple as that even if sometimes simplicity is not that easy to apply in practice.
Did you message your coach what kind of chess support do you need and how do they work with students? If not - next time do that and you can avoid disappointment.
